MB’s Fitness Center is Open for Business

MB’s new Taleghani Family Community Fitness Center opened on April 25 — a 3,300 square foot, state-of-the-art facility that provides a wide range of fitness and strength training equipment for everyone across all ages and activity levels. Senior Zane Z., a member of the Student Senate sub committee that helped develop plans for the fitness center, says that he loves the new facility because, “it allows the opportunity for different people from all across Moses Brown to come together and find a common ground in fitness.”

From free weights, to spin bikes, 将绳子, to treadmills, to rowing machines, to sled pulls, and plenty of open space for stretching and floor work, this space has something to offer to the entire MB community. It will be broadly used, from physical education classes to competitive student-athletes and anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness. Perform Better, owned by parent of three MB alumna Eric Falk P’11 ‘14 ‘14, played a central role in the facility design and supplied the equipment.

“The goal of the Community Fitness Center is to teach and engage MB students, faculty and staff in the creation of healthy lifestyle habits… in a safe and positive environment,” says AJ Kizekai, Director of Athletics. “I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact that this new facility will have on our athletic programs and community.”

Our lower and middle school physical education students were among the first to try out the center. During a recent P.E. 会话, second grade students performed a circuit routine that included yoga, plank high fives, and small hurdle sprints. Even Head of School Matt Glendinning was able to join in for a quick mid-day stretch!

“I have no doubt that the community fitness center will be transformative, both in terms of the strength and conditioning of our student-athletes and the fitness and wellness of our entire community,” says Matt. “The space was specifically designed to serve the needs of everyone.”

Middle schooler P.E classes have been doing circuit training complete with ball balancing, box jumps, 绳子, and ladder sprints. In the late afternoon, Upper Schoolers can be found utilizing the space for individual fitness and workout needs. Professional strength trainers from Northeast Sports Training and Rehabilitation (NEST) are also on hand before and after school to provide instruction and team-specific training plans for MB student-athletes.

Dina Barber, who runs MB’s bookstore, is often there and is spreading the word. “I’m excited about the new fitness center. I’m encouraging staff and faculty to take advantage of this new amazing place,” Dina says.

390美元的,000 project was funded by gifts from a small group of donors including alumni, current families and parents of alumni who were inspired to help the school develop a space designed to serve the needs of the entire community.

Lead funding for the project was provided by the Taleghani Family and made in honor of Nika ‘21 and Dino ‘23, and in memory of Kaveh Taleghani ’83. The dedication of the space took place on April 29 and included the matriarch of the family, Manijeh Taleghani, along with her sons Babak ‘75, Karan ‘79 and Reza ‘90.
